Work Experience at Kuzuko Lodge
In the Eastern Cape, one of the greatest barriers young people face is the lack of meaningful work experience. Without opportunities to develop practical skills and confidence, many struggle to enter the job market or to envision a future beyond their immediate circumstances. Our foundation is commited to changing that.
In partnership with Kuzuko Lodge, we offer hands-on work experience to young people from the surrounding communities, helping them gain the practical skills, exposure, and confidence they need to become more employable.
Participants have the opportunity to learn across a wide range of departments, including;
Tracking and guiding
Kitchen and restaurant
Front of house
Spa & beauty
Lodge maintenance and workshop
Reserve maintenance
For many, this is their first chance to step into a professional environment, discover their strengths, and explore careers they may never have considered.
Most participants are connected to our Pathfinders Mentorship Programme, or are referred to us through surrounding organisations and charities in the Eastern Cape. We try to create opportunities wherever possible.
Launched in 2025, our official six-month internship programme provides a deeper, more structured pathway to employment.
Each year, four carefully selected interns from the surrounding area rotate through key departments at Kuzuko Lodge, gaining broad exposure before choosing an area to specialise in.
Throughout the programme, interns receive:
On-the-job training
Regular check-ins and guidance
Exposure to multiple career pathways
Confidence-building opportunities
Support in identifying their long-term goals
We then continue to support them as they pursue their goals. This can include helping them secure an industry-recognised qualification that strengthens their CVs and positions them well for future employment.
At Kuzuko Foundation, we have the joy of wathcing these young people grow, not only in skill but in self-belief. Their dreams become bigger, their futures become brighter.
